The Northern Trust Open is currently going on from Riviera Country Club this week out in California. and while there is a load of talent in the tournament, we are going to take a moment to loo ahead to next week’s World Golf Championships event, because it is truly one of the most unique events in sports, and one of the most fun to watch in golf.
It’s the Accenture Match Play Championship, with the top-64 players in the world qualifying in four different brackets, just like you see in the March Madness tournament in College basketball. We’d like to take a bit of credit for jumping on the Brandt Snedeker bandwagon even before he won this past week at Pebble Beach, or prior to his second runner-up finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Sure, Snedeker won the 2012 FedEx Cup, but even that win didn’t seem to put him on the map in terms of the top players in the game. Continue reading

The victory by Phil Mickelson on Sunday at TPC Scottsdale still proves that Lefty is as good as it gets when he turns it on. A brush with a 59 on Thursday, followed by a wire-to-wire victory proved just that.
Mickelson won early in 2012 though as well, and from there went on to have a very mediocre year by his standards. He wasn’t in real contention in the Major championships, and now it is coming up on three years since Mickelson won his last Major championship at the 2012 Masters. Continue reading
Al Geiberger was the first player on the PGA tour to shoot a 59. That came back in 1977 at the Memphis Classic at Colonial Country. Since then, it’s happened just four more times in the history of the sport on the PGA Tour, through the hundreds or thousands, if not, millions of golf rounds that have taken place.
