Carl Petersson grabbed the 54-hole lead at the 2012 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town in Hilton Head, chasing down Colt Knost for a one-shot margin heading into the final round on Sunday.
Peterson fired a five-under par round of 66 on Saturday afternoon to turn a two-shot deficit into a one-shot lead.
Both Peterson and Knost have separated themselves a bit on the leaderboard as well, with no player closer than three shots. Continue reading
As the 2012 Masters at Augusta National kicks off full swing this week, fans will generally acknowledge that they kind of know what to expect from the participants by now. After the way he flamed out last year, we are all well aware of what Rory McIlroy is like at both his best and at his worst. Similarly, given everything we’ve seen from Tiger Woods over the last few years, we are fully aware of what he looks like when he’s on his game (see: the Arnold Palmer Invitational) and when he’s off his game (see: every tournament he played in for two and a half years before the Arnold Palmer Invitational). Oddsmakers like to cross over to other sports to create interesting prop bets for major events. Most of the time, they are innocuous wagers without suggestive undertones like who will score the most points between two players, who’s sports usually have the same point value (i.e. more goals scored: Soccer Player A or Hockey Player B).
But one cross bet caught my eye that could actually have a deeper meaning. As Tiger Woods ramps up for another rabid Masters tournament this week, all the buzz will be on his performance in the late rounds. It seemed like it lasted forever before Phil Mickelson’s Major championship drought came to end, when he won his first back in 2004.
And after once being known as the greatest player without a Major championship to his credit, Mickelson now has quite the collection, especially at Augusta National.
