The AT&T National
The AT&T National is an annual event held at Congressional Country Club, benefiting the Tiger Woods Foundation. The first tournament was held back in 2007, so it is a recent PGA Tour stop. The event was created as a replacement to The International. However, the AT&T event remains a stroke play event, unlike the stableford style of The International, where points were awarded for birdies and taken away for bogeys.
If you are familiar at all with the PGA Tour season, you might notice that AT&T is on yet another sponsorship for an event. The company is also the main sponsor for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am held earlier in February. They also used to be the sponsor for the AT&T Classic.
As for the course, Congressional is one of the most well known in the U.S., and was recently the host of the 2011 U.S. Open so golf fans were treated to some of the great sites around the grounds.
What Happened In 2012?
Tiger Woods won his own tournament for the second time. Woods put three-straight rounds in the 60s over the course of the final three days to win the 2012 edition of the AT&T National tournament by two shots over Bo Van Pelt, and three shots over Adam Scott. Woods first won this event back in 2009. The victory was Woods' third and final win on the 2012 PGA Tour circuit, and he did not win a Major for the fourth season in a row. Getting three wins and back into the winner's circle certainly showed that he is well on his way back however.
The 2013 AT&T National
The AT&T National from Congressional Country Club in Maryland will be the next stop for the 2013 PGA Tour. Tiger Woods typically plays in this event, but will not be in the field. That's ok though, because there are some big names who will be teeing it up.
Let's jump right into the top favorites according to this week's odds on the PGA Tour:
Odds To Win 2013 AT&T National
Adam Scott 14/1 (+1400) - Scott didn't have a great U.S. Open, but already having won the Masters this year no matter what else he does it will still be considered a great season. He is the highest-ranked players in the world in the tournament this week, at No.3. He is alongside Justin Rose on the betting odds to win the AT&T National.
Justin Rose 14/1 (+1400) - Rose followed up his U.S. Open win with a top-15 finish at the Travelers Championship, which is difficult to do. He appears to be playing his best golf of his career, and coming to a venue like Congressional will be fun. At 14/1, he and Scott lead the way to win.
Hunter Mahan 16/1 (+1600) - Mahan had a nice follow up performance to the U.S. Open as well, coming off of the heartbreak playing in the final group only to come up a bit short. He recorded a top-25 finish, and it expected to keep that rolling on into the AT&T National. He is just behind the leaders on the odds, going off at 16/1.
Jason Day 16/1 (+1600) - The who's who of the 2013 U.S. Open continues on the odds this week, with Jason Day set at 16/1 as well. Day tied for second behind Rose at Merion. Only Scott didn't record a top-five finish of the favorites so far.
Brandt Snedeker 18/1 (+1800) - Snedeker finished in the top-20 at the U.S. Open, but he still seems to be trying to find the magic that he had at the beginning of the 2013 PGA Tour season. Ever since he missed time to rehab an injury, he has not been himself. Will he bounce back this week? Oddsmakers think he can, set as 18/1.

The Winner - We aren't straying far from the favorites this week, and are going to go with Jason Day as the winner. Day player great at the U.S. Open and is strong in every facet of the game so far. He has one of the best-looking swings in all of golf, and when it is dialed in he is tough to beat. Day also had a second place finish at Congressional in the 2011 U.S. Open to Rory McIlroy so he has a history with success here.
Darkhorse Value Bet - We like to go with the hot hand. Although Ken Duke just won his first-ever PGA Tour event at 44 years old last week at the Travelers Championship, why not pick him again this week. Or at the very least, he could be a nice bet for a high finish. In golf you have to strike when the iron is hot, and Duke's has never been hotter. At 80/1 to win, it's a huge payout.
You can expect there to be some great pairings as there always is at AT&T National, but we do not yet know the specific tee times or pairings quite yet. These will be released just before the tournament start, so check back at that time.
