The John Deere Classic is on the schedule in the middle of July, one week prior to the third Major championship of the season in the British Open. The John Deere Classic is contested at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Players will have to option to keep sharp by playing this event for the British Open, if they qualify, or to skip it and head overseas. It's a reason the field at this event can vary so greatly.
Golf Channel and CBS will team up on the coverage during the week of the John Deere Classic to provide wall-to-wall golf action beginning on Thursday, July 11th through Sunday, July 14th. On Thursday and Friday, coverage will start on GC at 2pm ET. For the weekend, CBS is on the call beginning at 3pm ET.

The John Deere Classic
Officially becoming a PGA Tour event in 1972, the John Deere Classic has developed quite a history. John Deere has been the title sponsor since 1999, developing a solid relationship with the PGA Tour.
Perhaps it's fitting that this tournament is held at TPC Deere Run, which is a very popular course among the players. Situated a week prior to the British Open, many players, who plan to play in the third Major Championship, use this as a tune-up for the trip across the pond. But also because of the fact it comes right before the British Open, the field lacks many notable players due to the traveling that must happen to get overseas.
Still, 500 FedEx Cup points are available to the winner, and over a $1 million first-place prize.

2013 John Deere Classic
With only 10 of the top-50 players in the World Golf Rankings in the field for the 2013 John Deere Classic, it's certainly a wide open event as far as who could pull out the victory. The highest-ranked player in the field is Steve Stricker, who would likely not be in the field, but his past success as a three-time champion is undeniable and wouldn't want to skip this tournament despite the British Open being next week.
The John Deere Classic will have some other familiar faces though, such as defending champion Zach Johnson, as well as Louis Oosthuizen, D.A. Points, Boo Weekley, and Kevin Streelman.
Betting odds for the 2013 John Deere Classic were formed on Monday, as this could be a week where a player with a solid payout break through.
Steve Stricker 8/1 (+800) - It's hard to go against a player who won in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and was in contention in 2012. As such, Stricker is the overall favorite to get it done for a fourth time in five years at TPC Deere Run. It will be interesting to see how he rebounds from a disappointing final round at the 2013 U.S. Open.
Zach Johnson 16/1 (+1600) - Even though Johnson is second on the list of John Deere favorites, he is twice the payout as Stricker. Johnson won the John Deere Classic last season to end Stricker's reign at three-straight. This course sets up very well for Johnson, so we expect him to be in contention again.
Louis Oosthuizen 20/1 (+2000) - Oosthuizen has missed three out of his last five cuts. Something isn't quite clicking, but you know he wants to get in shape before the British Open, a tournament he won just a few years ago in 2010. Oosthuizen did secure a top-20 finish at the Greenbrier last week though.
Keegan Bradley 22/1 (+2200) - Bradley is another player this year we expected to contend a lot more often than he has. He had the runner up finish at the Byron Nelson and we thought he might have turned a corner. But a T50 at Memorial and a missed cut at the U.S. Open derailed that. Bradley had a top-20 finish at the Travelers Championship in his last outing.
Jimmy Walker 33/1 (+3300) - Let's be honest, a tournament that has Jimmy Walker as a top-five favorite is probably lacking in the depth. That's not a huge shot at Walker, it's more a shot at the top players opting out of the event. The odds are going with the hot golfer here, with Walker finishing second last week at the Greenbrier.

The Winner - We said that this tournament is wide open, and that may very well be the case. But it's hard to go away from Steve Stricker. The man has the course record for 72 holes here, and has won three times. He is a shoe in to be in contention. And when a player is in contention, it gives him a shot. In a week like this, even with the 8/1 payout we will take those odds and a shot at a win.
Darkhorse Value Bet - Troy Matteson lost in a playoff to Zach Johnson at the 2012 John Deere Classic. At 150/1 this week, we figured he would be much higher, having a history of playing good golf here. He hasn't played very well this year, but coming back to a place like this might be just the thing he needs to play well.
John Deere Classic tee times and pairings will be released by the PGA tour on the Tuesday or Wednesday of tournament week. When that happens, PGABettingOdds.com can then begin to go about sifting through the notable pairings to pay attention to. All of the tee times for the John Deere Classic will be listed for you to check out.
